Blend Inspiration
While dark roasts are often considered to be made of lower-quality beans roasted excessively to mask unwanted flavors, we know dark doesn’t have to mean dull. We recalled the roasts found in the original kissatens of Japan — deep yet distinct flavors full of nuance.

Roast Story
To achieve a dark roast that upholds this level of integrity, we punctuated organic Latin American coffee with a washed Ethiopian component for a blend with complex layers, a smooth and heavy body, and a beautiful sweet and smoky flavor.

Brew Tips
We very intentionally crafted this specialty dark roast by considering the blend composition, roast levels, and extraction. By lowering the brew temperature from 205° to 180° and adjusting the ratio to 1:10, we eliminate any harsh bitterness and astringency for a smooth, balanced cup. Follow detailed instructions here.
